'The beautiful game' doesn’t just refer to the skills on show – football players are showmen in more than one sense. But what if the kit suddenly compromised everything?

Armed with hidden cameras and Ajax' marketing director Edwin van der Sar, iris and adidas pranked Ajax trainer Frank de Boer and Holland’s key team players into thinking their new kit would be a massive thumbs down.

Bearing traditional Dutch design elements such as tulips and canal houses, the designs had Frank de Boer and his team more than a little concerned. It was a long shot on our part too; even the mere suggestion to prank clichéd emblems on their prized kit shouldn’t have flown. But it did, and with staggering results.
